Jamaica Marriage Requirements

Are you ready to get married in paradise? Congratulations! Weddings Jamaica will take you half way there…just follow these simple steps:

  1. Apply for your marriage license four weeks in advance. Contact:

  3. The cost of a license is around four thousand Jamaican dollars (US45 – US$50)
  4. Ensure to have your proof of citizenship ie. Certified copy of birth certificate, which includes father’s name.
  5. Take with you your parent’s written consent if you’re under 18 years of age.
  6. If you’re a divorcee, take with you your proof of divorce.
  7. Take your certified copy of death certificate if you’re a widow or widower.
  8. Have one of our local hotels make all the arrangements for you (see weddings and honeymoon) OR consult with one of our wedding planners (see our local resources) OR if you choose to plan your own wedding, contact the marriage officer at least a month in advance (see our local resources for officiants).
  9. Ensure to send all necessary documents to your marriage officer.
  10. After the Ceremony, you will have to wait a few weeks before getting the official marriage certificate from your marriage officer or weddings coordinator due to same being processed by the Registrar General’s Department.
  11. You must get married before nightfall and there must be two witnesses present at the ceremony.

Getting married in Jamaica is a breeze! You can get married just 24 hours after arrival. No blood tests are necessary, like in other countries. Feel free to visit the associated websites for any additional information:
